And it truly was! My Clients Jessica & Ashley were looking for help planning a classy 1920's Jazz Club theme selected by the student body, for the Prom. A Prom? How fun is this? And a theme that I love! My husband and I talked about our Prom's. Neither of us participated in the theme or decor, but we do recall a great similarity in the use of Crepe Paper Streamers....Balloons...Crepe Paper Streamers.....Balloons...Oh!! and 80's music!
Well, this was a far cry from those days. We set to work creating fun renderings inspired by the 1920's great art deco design and the school color of Blue to accent the Silver, Black and White and transformed what was the cafeteria and common room into a 1920's Jazz Club!
Students arrived at the school greeted by moving lights and a Fabulous Vintage Car donated by one of the students parents.
As the Students entered the "Common Room", a 1920's town square awaited them giving them all an opportunity to roam about and snap photos with friends whom many dawned traditional costumes.
The Newstand, with 1920's Magazines and old newspapers with headlines reading such things as
"Lexington High to Host Prom"!
The Box Office boasting"Sold Out" signs and "Dancers Entrance Back Stage Only"
The Town Boutique with Fedora's and Feather Boa's ...a hint to what awaits them!
Other props helped set the stage like park benches, small trees, barrels and old lamp posts
The Jazz Club entry takes the Students down a long hallway lined with red carpet as if walking down a secluded ally way. As students traveled down the hall they encountered several 1920's Movie Posters, Glittery Silver Mylar Curtain overlays, as well as Flapper & Gangster Siloutte Vignettes
As the Students entered into the Club they found fun party favors like Black Fedora's and Black or White Feather Boas, Decks of playing card with the Prom theme logo and long strands of pearls. The Jazz Club vibe was all the rage with Black and White Satin, Platinum silver runners, huge ostrich feather plume centerpieces created by Tim Touch Floral , a longtime participator in the annual Prom festivities and owner of a local floral shop in Lexington . The room was draped in Black with White Hourglass Overlays, Platinum Silver Swag and Blue Up lighting.
Before......
After........The existing stage was presented with silhouettes of jazz band members and a baby grand piano.
A custom DJ booth with vintage art deco flare takes center stage and a custom gobo signify's the dance floor
The students really enjoyed themselves as did we in designing a fun event for them all. Part of our arrangements with the school was allow students to apprentice with us and help set the decor for the evening festivities, in trade the school offered the students who participated in this program a ticket to the Prom. After the students were presented with the renderings many wanted to be part of the installation and we really enjoyed the students self motivating attitudes to help make their event a memorable one.
" A Vintage Affair" ~ Indeed!!!
Thank you Jessica & Ashley! We look forward to next years theme!
